Horsham Saints has kept their place in Wimmera Football League top three with a comprehensive 75-point win over the Warrack Eagles at the Brim Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Returning from a work trip in London, key forward Jarrod Garth kicked a massive 10 goals in the 16.8.104 to 4.5.29 thrashing.
Assistant coach Sam Clyne continues to lead from the front with yet another excellent game in the midfield winning plenty of the ball. The backline was also phenomenal led by Patrick Knott.
Coach Ben Knott was pleased with how the game went in tough conditions.
“It was a tough trip to Brim. The sun was out but the oval itself didn’t drain that well and it was heavy under foot and damp. It was pleasing that the boys ran out the game so strongly,” Knott said.
He was also happy that the leaders continue to lead the way but also the performance of 17-year-old Jordy Keyte.
“Jordy is really starting to blossom down back and as a youngster he is showing he has a great future in the league” he concluded.
The Horsham Demons had a tight 12-point loss to Minyip Murtoa at the Horsham City Oval. The Demons held the Burra goalless in the first quarter, taking a nine-point lead into quarter time. They trailed by three points at half time but then led by 5 at three quarter time. A three goal to zip final quarter saw the Burra win 7.5.47 to 4.11.35.
Demons coach Tyler Blake was pleased with how his young team handled the test.
“It was a real good performance. We were in it for 90% of the game but couldn’t get the job done in the last 10 minutes. We had enough of it in the forward 50 but just couldn’t score,” Blake said.
It was bittersweet. We can take a lot more positives out of the game than negatives but a win would have been good,” he added.
When asked what positives they took out of the game, Blake said.
“Just being competitive against a stronger team. It was the first time we played a consistent four quarter game without getting a win. It was a consistent overall game in how we want to play. The young ones also stepped up again which was pretty positive.”
On the young players, Blake praised a couple of them.
“Ben Janetzki and Brody Pope were dominant through the midfield all game and ran the game out. They played like they were in their prime even though they are 19 and 20 years old,” he said.
“Jack Dalziel is also another young one. He has been one of those kids going through the ranks from our junior programs and is playing his role. He has shown he can be diverse playing anywhere on the ground, but mostly off half back. He is developing good.”
“Finally, Jayden Scott played really well. He is a little bit older and is a running forward doing a lot of work between the arcs and providing options. When he doesn’t get the ball, he is creating space and doing the little things to help us score,” Blake concluded.
For the Burra, Jae McGrath and Jye Walter kicked two goals with Tanner Smith and Warwick Stone solid on the day.
At Beulah Memorial Park, the Giants kept their grip on second place with a comfortable 27-point win over Stawell. Led by Zachary Robins with five goals, the Giants won 11.14.80 to 8.5.53. Billy Lloyd and Coleman Schache were amongst the best on the day.
For the Warriors, Aiden Graveson and Kyan Mellor both kicked two goals apiece with Jarrod Stafford and Thomas Eckel again amongst the best, the latter having a great year.
Dimboola had a comfortable 43-point win against Nhill at Davis Park. Jack Landt kicked a game high four goals with Sam Godden and Hayden Walters with three and two respectively in the 13.12.90 to 5.17.47 win. For Nhill, Drew Schneider kicked three goals, all coming in the final term.
