Foundation seeking Dimboola safe space
After being integrated successfully in the community of Horsham, The Outback Mind Foundation is looking to establish a Men's Circle in Dimboola.
The circle is designed to be a safe space for males to chat, form positive relationships and learn from others.
"I have a history with Dimboola," founder of The Outback Mind Foundation and former local Aaron Schultz said.
He said, "I know the challenges there; I know there has been a history of male suicides in the town."
"There's also an alcohol problem there and blokes who want to break the cycle."
Mr Schultz said Dimboola was a bit of a challenge to crack, but once the ball starts rolling it will be amazing what happens.
"The circle in Horsham has had probably over 200 people go through this year," he said.
"It's extremely stable and structured and we have four facilitators running events each week."
"These are free and about basically attempting to do something good because it's needed."
Mr Schultz said the approach needs to be pro-active towards domestic violence, mental health and suicide prevention.
"Until then, we aren't going to improve the outcomes," he said.
"It's important for us to provide neutral spaces, where guys can come along and not have any fear about chatting about stuff."
Mr Schultz said he is looking for community members that are genuine in helping.
Facilitator training is provided, and Mr Schultz is looking for men that are grounded, maybe had their own 'experience lived' and are interested in promoting masculinity positively.
"We train them, put them through a comprehensive program that shows them how to hold space, what challenges and risks to look for etc," he said.
"I'll also provide advice and guidance. It's about helping them grow personally, but helping the community grow too."
