HDFNL 2026 preview: Fitness the key for KLU
The Kaniva Leeor United A grade netball side is striving for an improved year following a 2025 season riddled by injuries.

The Cougars were the surprise team in 2024, recording seven wins and finishing just outside of the finals, but managed just two wins in 2025.
With season-ending injuries to players like Carlee Feder and Melody Maddern in the first half of the season, returning coach Kylie King admits it was an unlucky year for the side.
“Last season was tough for us with three players suffering season-ending injuries that required surgery, which had a big impact on the team,” she said.
“The rest of the group showed incredible resilience, though, and kept turning up each week, even managing to come away with a few wins.”
While some of last year’s injuries will impact the playing list, King said the squad will be very similar to the 2025 team.
“There haven’t been any major changes,” the coach said.
“We have a few players returning after family leave or moving to the area, while a couple have stepped away due to injuries, family commitments or relocating.”
Despite last year’s challenges, King is very encouraged by what she has seen in the preseason.
“The preseason has been positive with good numbers attending,” she said.
“The focus has been on building fitness and skills, and strengthening combinations across the court.
“It’s been great to see strong effort across the whole group.
“A number of players have impressed with their pre-season efforts and work rate.
“It’s shaping up to be a competitive year for positions.”
King said the Cougars’ focus this season will be on health and improvement.
“For 2026, the main thing we’re hoping for is a bit of luck with injuries and having everyone out on the court each week,” she said.
“Our goal is to continue improving each week, play consistent netball and stay competitive throughout the season.”
