Festival ready to spread Christmas cheer
Santa and Mrs Claus are ready to make the trip from the North Pole to Warracknabeal to see all the girls and boys this Sunday night at the annual Christmas Festival.
Hosted by Warracknabeal Action Group, the Warracknabeal Racecourse will be decked out ready for the festive season that the whole family will enjoy.
"Our team have been working very hard for the last six months," festival chairperson Kathryn Wilken-Jackson said.
"It's a family-friendly event."
For the first time, there will be a section called Warrack Wonderland, an arts and crafts station for all.
"Kids can do some arts and crafts at their own leisure, it's a big feature," Ms Wilken-Jackson said.
There will also be a jumping castle, Tiny Goats and Co, facepainting, showbags, Level Up Gaming and of course a visit from the big man himself, Santa.
"He will come during the carols segment and will sing and dance with the kids," she said.
"We know kids will have a great time."
Gates open at 5pm with the formal carols commencing 6.30pm with the event expected to wrap up at around 8.30pm.
"There will be some special performers for pre-entertainment," Ms Wilken-Jackson said.
Carols will feature solo performances as well as the community based choir and the Warracknabeal and District Band.
"We get really good attendance each year," she said.
"It's a chance to get together with family and friends for pre-Christmas celebrations."
A wide variety of food vans will also be on site with attendees able to purchase baked potatoes, fish and chips, fried foods as well as a barbecue.
Helen's Coffee Van will be at the event selling coffee, summer drinks and Zooper Doopers.
Entry is $2 per person to help cover costs for the event.
"The festival is very big to run so entry fees are to help cover costs and we can keep running the event," Ms Wilken-Jackson said.
A raffle will also be done with tickets available to purchase at the gate with all proceeds going towards Warracknabeal Neighbourhood House.
Attendees are also asked to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets as there will not be any available at the venue.
She expressed a big thank you to everyone who has made this event possible.
"Without them, it wouldn't have been done," she said.
