Feedback sought on Tower Park purchase
The future of Dimboola's beloved Tower Park is up in the air with owner Graeme Schneider seeking to sell the site and place it back into community hands, approaching the Dimboola Lions Club to make the purchase.
Community consultation is well underway to gauge the level of support for the Lion’s purchase of the site.
"Such a purchase is a big decision for the Dimboola Lions and we are keen to get feedback from the community about what they want to see happen to the site," Lions president Paul Lehmann said.
The site previously housed the Dimboola Hotel more than 20 years ago before a fire ripped through the building on October 25, 2003, destroying the old bar, staircase and most of the upstairs accommodation.
In 2015, former local Graeme Schneider purchased the land and soon worked with members of Dimboola Arts Inc. to apply for major funding to develop the park site.
Since its opening in 2023, Tower Park has given locals and visitors a place to relax and enjoy the town while also learning about the history of the Dimboola Hotel that is incorporated in the site.
Tower Park has become a hub for a regular community market and was also a destination during the Wimmera Steampunk Festival earlier this year.
"The Lions recognise the value of the park and what it adds to the local landscape of the main street," Mr Lehmann said.
"We have some ideas for how we can activate the park even more but we want to hear from locals as well."
There will be opportunities for the community to contribute towards the purchase of the site to ensure it continues to be part of the fabric of community activity in Dimboola.
