Farmer takes over Rotary's top office

Lower Norton farmer Michael Speirs has taken over the chain of office for Horsham Rotary Club from retiring president Neil King.
Mr Speirs was inducted at a dinner meeting at Glen Logan restaurant.
The club, now in its 96th year, welcomed District Governor nominee Christine Dufty of Nhill among the many guests.
The club also has a new Paul Harris Fellow. Sue Williams, whose husband Bill is a club member, received this honour from longtime member and former president Loloma Puls for service to the club.
During the past year, the club made donations worth $6207 to many organisations including a national science forum, the Horsham College student achievement program, Wimmera Cancer Against Kids and the Wimmera Leadership program.
The club also supported a Filipino dance group and sponsored Tyson Marshall from Horsham Toyota to attend a Rotary Youth Leadership seminar at Kangaroobie, NSW.
Three members left Horsham and transferred to other clubs: Don Carter, Kelvin King and John Evans.
Office bearers responsible for Horsham Rotary Club's other portfolios are secretary Graham Gerlach, treasurer Rob Phillips, fellowship and public relations Ian Ruwoldt, youth services Don Perry, international Loloma Puls, and community service Phil Lohrey.
