Extreme Fire Danger Rating prompts Total Fire Ban for Wimmera, Mallee
A Total Fire Ban was declared in the Wimmera for December 20.
With temperatures expected to reach 37°C in parts of the region, a Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Wimmera and Mallee forecast districts.
Additionally, an Extreme Fire Danger Rating has been forecast for Friday, 20 December 2024, in the Wimmera.
Emergency services are advising residents to take action now to protect themselves and their property, as bushfires can spread quickly.
CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said tomorrow's conditions would make it difficult for firefighters to supress a fire should one start.
"...with fires still in the landscape in the west and south west of the state, particularly in the Grampians National Park, people need to consider their travel movements to these areas," he said.
"We're asking people to follow the strict conditions associated with the Total Fire Ban declaration.
The news comes as the Grampians National Park bushfire continues to burn for a third day.
More than 74 vehicles are responding to the blaze, which has burnt more than 6222 hectares of land since December 17.
Community information sessions are held in Willaura from 2.30 to 4pm at the Willaura Supermarket, followed by another session at the Moyston General Store from 4.30 to 6pm.
Authorities have set up a community meeting in Dunkeld for December 20 at 14 Sterling Place from 10am.
