Edenhope livestock community farewell retiring David and Jodi Hanel
The pair have been stalwarts of Edenhope livestock for 24 years.
After 42 years in the livestock game AWN Edenhope stock agent David Hanel has penned up for the last time, retiring together with wife Jodi, who ran the office's administration.
The Hanels spent 24 years in the far west Wimmera town, firstly with Elders, then Rodwells, then finally from 2021 with AWN, before hanging up their hats following last week's successful Edenhope first cross ewe sale.
AWN Wimmera territory manager Wayne Driscoll paid tribute to the pair.
"They've done a fantastic job in establishing a great relationship with clients in a big first cross region," Mr Driscoll said.
"David was instrumental in moving the Edenhope saleyards to their new site to the west of town and in really building up the November sales which are going very well, attracting both vendors and buyers from a wide area and getting really strong local support," he said.
Mr Hanel said the plan was now to retire to Ballarat.
"We've had a fantastic time here in Edenhope and have made a lot of friends, it has been a great industry to be involved in," he said.
Mr Driscoll said he had worked closely with Mr Hanel over a number of years.
"He started out, working across south-east South Australia, in places like Millicent, Penola, Pinnaroo and Mount Gambier, before then moving over the border where he worked at Heywood and Avoca and then taking on the job in Edenhope."
"He's been a great stock man and a pleasure to work with while Jodi has provided invaluable support with her administration skills, we'll miss the both of them."
