In round nine of the Horsham District Football Netball League (HDFNL), the Jeparit Rainbow netball teams played Noradjuha Quantong at home.
A grade
It was another tough game for the A graders, coming up against the ever-reliably tall and strong Noradjuha Quantong.
They knew they had to play at their very best to compete with this very experienced side and any turnover had to be capitalised on.
They came out firing and were able to turn the ball over early.
It was a very even quarter but halfway through the second quarter NQ started to pull away.
Some changes were made in the third to try to mix things up a bit and they had an instant impact, but again – like last game – some silly errors proved very costly.
NQ began to get a bit of a run on and continued this into the last, running away with a 14-goal win.
Awards: Martion Rural $50 to Maddi Marva, and Aldo’s Kitchen Cheeseboard to Meg Werner
Final score: JR 42 to NQ 56
B grade
The girls came out firing in the first quarter.
They were focused and composed throughout the whole game.
Lucy Dorrington worked relentlessly in defence, with Ebony Spokes backing her.
The mid-courters also worked hard to provide lots of turnovers and amazing passes into the goalies.
It was a hard game but a huge win for the B-grade girls.
Awards: Sweat Towel by Petch to Lucy Dorrington, Warrack Electrical $20 to Shekinah Huristone, and Wimmera Mallee Waste Blanket to Alex Schulz
Final score: JR 40 to NQ 21
C grade
It was a good game for the girls with lots of coming in front and good leads from everyone.
They met the team goals and everyone had fun.
Awards: Marra Ag Towel to Sophie Thomas, and Presh to Evin Preston
Final score: JR 16 to NQ 59
Under 17
There was a bit of a slower start with the cool breeze but the girls managed to play a great team game despite the natural elements stopping their usual style of play.
It was well done by the girls to notch up a win.
Awards: Lester Socks and Presh to Celie Fuller, and Ian’s IGA $10 to Nekeisha Bastin
Final score: JR 31 to NQ 23
Under 15
Again, there was a slow start to the game but the girls kept the pressure up.
With a few changes to the team, the girls continue to work hard to gain possession of the ball.
The shooters are working well together, feeding each other to gain more goals.
Awards: Sweat Towel to Maggie Fisher, and Marra Ag Drink bottle to Taylor Hauselberger
Final score: JR 24 to NQ 40
Under 13
With a few of the familiar girls missing from the side it took a while for the girls to find their feet, but as the first quarter progressed they started to find a bit of flow to be only two goals down at the first break.
As the game went on, the NQ side really started to find some space in the goal ring, but the JR girls kept trying to make things hard and were able to turn the ball over on a number of occasions.
The second quarter proved very costly, with JR outscored by four, and from then on it was quite even, eventually going down by nine.
It was good to see Pippa Fisher and Felicity Keller get the opportunity to play their first U13 game as they slotted in very nicely.
Awards: Bow Bakery Voucher to Taylor Fisher, and Warrack Electrical $10 to Eliza Clarke
Final score: JR 17 to NQ 26
Modifieds
Awards: Livingston's $5 to Lily Saul, and $5 Canteen voucher to Adalyn Clugston.
