The Warracknabeal Easter Races are celebrating 70 years this year, with the Easter Saturday race set to turn out entertainment for the whole family.
The highlight of the day, the Emmetts-John Deere Warracknabeal Cup at 4.31pm, will see $50,000 in prize money up for grabs, as well as trophies and an inscribed rug.
Gates open at 11am, with the eight races beginning at 12.46pm.
There will be live music, Fashion on the Field, the Colts and Fillies Pavillion, and face painting and an easter egg hunt for the kids, with plenty of catering available from bars and food outlets.
Free buses will be available from Hopetoun and Horsham.
Horsham’s bus will depart the West Side Tabernet at 10.30am, picking up at Murtoa Railway Hotel at 11am and the Minyip supermarket at 11.30am.
Hopetoun’s bus will depart from the Community Hotel at 11am, picking up at Beulah Football Oval at 11.20am and the Brim bus stop at 11.35am.
Bookings for the buses need to be made to Lauren 0484 221 457.
A local bus will convey patrons to the township after the race.
Whilst the Warracknabeal Cup at 4.31pm has a disappointing field of only seven this year, it is certain to be an even race, with the Maher Eustace stable’s Reserve Street attempting to win the Warracknabeal Cup for the third consecutive time
Reserve Street always seems to find form at this time of year, having finished second at Sandown on March 15.
Maher Eustace stable’s other runner, the Irish-bred SkyOut, hasn’t run for nearly a year,but on that occasion won over 2100 metres in Germany.
Throw in last start winners Dothraki and Coastal Town, and top-weight Bookman, and it is looking like it will be an interesting race.
