Dumper caught
Another rubbish dumper has been caught polluting Horsham's public spaces, this time targeting Taylors Lake.
A Horsham man was found to have violated EPA Act Section 115(1) by leaving a large stack of styrofoam boxes on the bank of the lake.
He was fined $395 in total.
A Horsham Rural City Council spokesperson said the consequences of illegal rubbish dumping were felt by the entire community.
"Not only does it cost council hundreds of man-hours each year but the cost of cleanup is also a burden on ratepayers," the spokesperson said.
"There are also consequences for the Wimmera’s waterways and wildlife, which are valuable assets to the region."
The spokesperson said council believed there were several repeat offenders in the area.
Members of the public are encouraged to contact council on 5382 9777 if they have information that might lead to a rubbish dumper being caught.
It should be noted that foam - the main waste component in this case - can be recycled free of charge at any transfer station.
