Drung South upset Lawn
After starting the season, 0-5, Drung South have won their last four matches to move to third on the table following a win against ladder leaders Horsham Lawn on Saturday.
They won 10-2 in a massive victory. Horsham Lawn's only wins came through Tahlia Thompson and Cherie Wood in the first doubles match of the day, defeating Kate-Lyn Perkin and Sandra Casey 8-6 and Cherie Wood winning her singles against Casey, 8-3.
The other tie between St Michaels and Central Park was a thriller, with Central Park prevailing 7-5 at St Michaels.
Central Park took an early 3-1 lead. Matt Jones and Brendan Nitschke started their day off with an 8-4 win over Nick Robertson and Chris Ellis. They won both singles through Harry Allan and Sienna Nitschke defeating Joel Reese and Barb Crough, 8-2 and 8-3 respectively. Steffi McDonald and Mia Rees won their match for St Michaels against Willow Sainsbury and Tara McIntyre 8-5.
The next four sets were tied two a-piece. For St Michaels, Steffi McDonald and Barb Crough defeated Willow Sainsbury and Sienna Nitschkie 8-4 and Mia Rees was too good for Tara McIntyre, 8-5. Matt Jones and Harry Allan defeated Nick Robertson and Joel Reese, 8-5 and Brendan Nitschke was too good for Chris Ellis, winning 8-4.
The last four sets again were tied 2-2. Steffi McDonald defeated Willow Sainsbury, 8-3 and Mia Rees and Barb Crough defeated Tara McIntyre and Sienna Nitschke 8-1 for St Michaels. Matt Jones defeated Nick Robertson, 8-2 and Brendan Nitschke and Harry Allan won a close match against Chris Ellis and Joel Reese to guide Central Park home.
Tennis resumes on January 27.
