The Warracknabeal Herald and North West Press, in conjunction with Warracknabeal Police, are seeking information on the theft of the newspaper’s honesty tin on January 16.
The tin, which was taken just before 9pm, was also stolen late last year and has prompted owners to install an updated security camera.
“We only had the camera inside the office in case the window was broken and to keep our staff safe,” managing director Andrew Ward said.
“We didn’t intend for it to be used to capture thieves outside, so the picture quality isnt great.
“We have now installed an outdoor camera and a tin that is chained to the newspaper stand, but we also considered taking away the stand completely, which is disappointing.”
Both times, the tin is estimated to have contained approximately $20 or less, prompting staff to question whether it was worth the thieves time.
“We started putting the tin out with the newspapers during Covid, when we weren't allowed to have people in the office,” said Jenny Ward.
“The community said they liked being able to pick up their paper later in the day if we closed early, so we kept doing it.”
