Dimboola to meet ladder leaders
After an exciting finish in their last hit-out before the mid-season break last week, Dimboola are on the road to play the Horsham Saints this Saturday.
But it will be a challenging task for Dimboola, as it would be for most other sides in the league, as the Saints are currently the ladder leaders, having been defeated just once this season, while notching up five wins.
Despite being the competition leaders, the Saints have absolutely no breathing space and are joined by a couple of other sides on five wins for the season, with the Thunder second, on percentage, while the Warriors are third, also on 20 points.
Dimboola are still looking for their first victory for 2026, but came agonisingly close in round seven, drawing with Minyip Murtoa, who also haven't notched up a win this season.
Dimboola coach Andrew Moore has led the way for his side this season, featuring among the best players in each of his six games, as has Darcy Dubois.
Ashley Clugston and Riley McLaughlin have also been good for their team.
The Horsham side has a more even spread of talent, being, all in all, more experienced at the game, although Cody Bryan, Mitch Martin, Reid Kuller, and Will Brennan have been in the best, consistent form for the Saints.
Dimboola will regain the services of Benny Miller this week, who has been on holidays, and his addition will be more than handy for the side.
Moore said the Roos are feeling good heading into the match after regrouping and refreshing over the off week.
"But this Saturday it doesn't get any easier for us," admitted the coach.
"Horsham are playing some brilliant footy at the moment.
"But going off our draw last week, as we have mentioned, we could see highlights in our game that we have been trying to communicate, implement and practice over the last month in particular.
"It was pleasing to see that so hopefully that continues on."
While Moore was planning to review more vision in the coming days after chatting with Wimmera Mallee News, the coach said he was aware that the Saints are playing a more balanced and even lineup this season.
"I know they have done recruiting, making them more balanced over the ground than in previous years," he said.
"They've got key players up forward, which is going to be a challenge to compete with, but also through the middle, which is where their strength lies.
"They are areas we are going to have to reduce, but we can't completely stop them."
