Dimboola Pool upgrade plan
The Dimboola Swimming Pool, a beloved recreational hub for the community could soon undergo a much-needed transformation if the Hindmarsh Shire Council’s funding application is successful.
At the council meeting on December 18, 2024, a decision was made to reapply for the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund (RCSIF) to support the $1.1 million project, committing $275,000 as its share.
The proposed works include a wet deck conversion, installation of a balance tank and in pool hydraulics, a filtration upgrade to meet health standards, crack and joint repairs, and the construction of an all-abilities access ramp.
These changes aim to improve safety, functionality, and accessibility of all residents.
Hindmarsh Shire Council mayor Cr Ron Ismay highlighted the importance of the funding, stating, “this is a fantastic opportunity for the Council to capitalise on the State Government Funding by making small cash contribution of 25 percent of total project cost,” she said.
The Dimboola Swimming Pool stands out among the Shire’s four pools due to its high usage, with nearly 50 percent more attendance than Nhill, the next most popular pool.
An engineering report also identified Dimboola Pool as best suited for the proposed upgrades. Recent free-entry initiatives have further boosted the attendance and strengthened its role as a community hub.
The pool was ranked as a medium to high priority in the Community Action Plan 2024-2028, which was developed with significant input from residents and adopted by the council in February 2024. This demonstrates the community’s strong support for maintaining and improving the facility.
The funding aligns with the state government’s expanded guidelines, which now include outdoor aquatic facilities following lobbying efforts by councils.
Previously, only change room upgrades were eligible for grants, with maintenance costs left to councils.
With the backing of the RCIF, the Dimboola Swimming Pool could soon be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility that continues to be a cornerstone of the local community.
The council will host two drop-in sessions on Thursday, January 30, for community members to ask questions about the grant application and proposals.
The first session will be held at Dimboola Library from 10 am to 1 pm, while the second one will be at the pool from 2 pm to 5 pm.
