Dimboola no match for Warrack
Dimboola were no match for Warrack, losing 2.4 (16) to 27.18 (180) at Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Dimboola's only majors came in the second and fourth quarters, while the Eagles kept the score ticking over with four goals in the first quarter, seven in the second, five in third and 11 in the final term.
Andrew Moore and Jackson O'Neill battled hard all day for Dimboola, while the victors were led well by Nicholas Lehman and Samuel Callins.
Brayden Culhane was the only goal kicker for Dimboola, while Connor McFayden and Lehman found the big sticks seven times each for Warrack.
Eagles coach Andrew Moore said the biggest thing the side was attempting to implement was around consistency in pressure.
"We were good in patches but we need to improve that to be consistent and sustainable, not only from one week to the next but during games and quarters," Moore said.
"When I talk about the pressure, there were definitely elements that were fantastic (on Saturday): the first 10 minutes of the game, but even during a patch of 10 to 15 minutes after half-time, where you could see we have the desperation to apply a tackle and force them to handball."
Moore said he expected once the side, which was full of youngsters, played more footy together, it would improve.
"With sides that are young comes inexperience, so there are lapses there," the coach said.
"Through that is mainly concentration, and that could be ball watching, as an example.
"We need to make sure we're switched on during the entire game."
"Even if the ball is in Dimboola's forward 50, it's about what, for example, the defenders are doing.
"Are they watching the ball, or do they have that initiative of being in a really assertive position?
"But that comes with education, and it's going to take some time through development, and we're aware of that."
Despite a couple of big losses to start 2026, Moore said they needed to stay positive, and he credited his side for doing that.
"We get along well, but that connection: how can we do that in a competitive game sense?" he said.
"We need to make sure they hate losing a contest, not in the way of results.
"Most players have 50, 60, 100 contests every game so there are many opportunities to assert yourself by nullifying or winning that contest."
The Demons host Dimboola this Saturday at Horsham City Oval in round four.
The Horsham side has had one win this season and a couple of losses.
But Moore said the focus was more on his own side rather than the opposition team.
"It is about ourselves, and it begins with that element of pressure," Moore said.
"We're aware of where the Demons are at as well, based on even last year's results.
"But for us, it's another great opportunity for us to go out and improve as a team and do our best for the club.
"That's breaking those things down around pressure and sustaining that the entire game.
"We hope we can make those improvements we want to see."
