Dimboola, Horsham headline round four
The fourth round of the Wimmera Football Netball League fixture sees the match of the round contested between Dimboola and Horsham, with the game being held at City Oval.
In further games, Southern Mallee play Stawell at Jeparit Recreation Reserve, Nhill clash with the Saints, and Ararat are on the road to play Warrack.
The Demons are currently second, while the Roos are fourth on the ladder.
Led by Georgie Carberry, the Horsham side has had a couple of wins and a loss this season, while the Roos are sitting on one draw and one win, along with a bye.
Dimboola, coached by Ant Toet, got its first win last week, against Warrack.
Carberry said Dimboola is a physical side and expects nothing less on Saturday.
"They go hard at the contest, give 100 per cent for four quarters and never back down," admitted Carberry.
"Even this early in the season, you know exactly what you’re going to get from them in terms of intensity and pressure, so we’re expecting a contested and tough game on Saturday."
Carberry said across the court, the sides match up well, but she thinks one of the key areas of competition will be Horsham's defenders against Dimboola's shooters.
"For us though, the key to getting the four points is consistency," Carberry said.
"We need to stick to our structures, take care of the ball, and play our brand for the full game."
Stawell will be looking for its first win of the season when they play the Thunder this Saturday.
With losses against Ararat, Horsham and Warrack, they'll be hoping to lessen the impact Thunder goalie Phoebe Bigham has on the hit out, which could go a long way in seeing the Warriors get the four points.
The Thunder were able to get the win against Minyip Murtoa by a goal, but have gone down to Nhill and Horsham Saints this season.
At Anzac Park, Ararat is on the road to play Warrack, and coach of the Eagles, Sarah Spicer, said there are a few things from last week's loss to Dimboola her side will have to improve on to earn the four points this Saturday.
"We will need to work on keeping possession of the ball and our turnovers," said Spicer.
"We had plenty of the ball Saturday, but there were lots of opportunities we wasted."
Spicer said the Eagles will be looking to close down Ararat's goalies, Laney McLoughlan and Maggie Astbury, who are as accurate and strong as each other.
"Our defence will need to keep pressure on them and make sure we stay in play," Spicer summarised.
In the final game, Nhill hosts the Saints at Davis Park, with the Horsham side coming into the clash having not lost a game in 2026.
Nhill has recorded a win, a draw and had a bye this season.
