Dimboola downed in a close contest
Dimboola were defeated by Horsham by just a few goals in the fourth round of A Grade netball for the Wimmera Football Netball League.
The effort was gallant from Dimboola, who now have one win, one loss and one draw for the season.
It was a close game in its entirety, with Dimboola leading 11 to 10 at the end of the first quarter, before being down by a goal at the big break.
Scores were tied heading into the final quarter, but it was the Horsham side that had the better finish, claiming the win 45 to 42.
Coach of Dimboola, Ant Toet, said she was pleased with how her girls battled the game, but they still have work to do.
"We matched up well and had our chances, so we need to take the next step to pull it off for the win," she admitted.
"Accuracy on goal was the difference in the end.
"We both had exactly 62 attempts."
For Horsham, Georgia Hiscock and Zarli Knight were the better players; Hiscock in Centre, and Knight starting in Wing Attack, before moving into Goal Attack after half time.
For the losing side, Maddison Marra was steady in Wing Defence, while Nicole Polycarpou was the go-to in the circle for the Roos, shooting 24 goals.
Toet was full of praise for Marra in a position she hadn't played much before.
"I was impressed by her athleticism, persistence and willingness to give it a crack," admitted Toet.
"Nicole (Polycarpou) in goals on Ebonie (Salter) also impressed me with the changes she's made to her game and again, her willingness to try new things to ultimately help the team."
With the loss now behind them, Dimboola will face the Thunder this week at Dimboola Recreation Reserve.
Toet said the opposition has had a few changes from the past, along with a different lineup in each game so far.
"We need to concentrate on us and what we're doing with confidence and consistency," said Toet.
"But the game will be decided by winning each position on the court and each of our players playing their role."
