Dimboola Dollars back for Christmas

The popular "Dimboola Dollars" program is returning for one day only, following the success of its inaugural run in March and April this year.

Head to Tower Park on Saturday, November 22 between 10am and 12pm to purchase up to $100 of Dimboola Dollars to spend at specified town traders the following Friday, November 28.
Head to Tower Park on Saturday, November 22 between 10am and 12pm to purchase up to $100 of Dimboola Dollars to spend at specified town traders the following Friday, November 28.

The program is part of the Dimboola Lions bushfire recovery initiative.

In the lead up to Christmas, they will be available to spend at the main street traders listed on the back of the D$ on Friday, November 28.

This will coincide with the final Tower Park Market for the year and the Dimboola Main Street Christmas event – A Very Dimmy Christmas.

This time, the Lions Club have printed $5000 worth of Dimboola Dollars in a single denomination of $10.

People will be able to purchase these ‘dollars’ for half the face value, so they can be purchased for $5.

The Dimboola (D)$10 can be used to purchase goods from the local traders that are printed on the back of the note.

When the trader receives that D$10, they can then redeem the full $10 from the Lions Club.

There will be a purchase limit of D$100 per household in order to ensure the benefits are shared around.

This means that the $2500 investment by the Lions Club will generate at least $5000 of expenditure in the town – consumers will benefit by getting a significant discount on their purchases, and the traders will benefit from increased sales.

We are keen to see how this initiative will stimulate local expenditure as we kick off the Christmas season by encouraging a 'buy local' approach and supporting our smaller traders on Friday, November 28.

The only restrictions are that the Dimboola Dollars cannot be used on the purchase of alcohol, cigarettes or vapes, gambling or pharmaceutical prescriptions.

People will be able to apply to purchase up to $100 from Dimboola, starting Saturday, November 22, in person at Tower Park (weather permitting) or online by emailing dimboola.vic@lions.org.au between 10am and 12pm.

Given the limited number available, the allocation will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Email bookings will need to provide details of name, phone number, the amount (up to D$100), and preferred method of payment.

The Dimboola $ will be available for collection on Friday, November 28, and expenditure must be done during the day or in the evening.
