Different first day for Dimboola students
Students across the Wimmera geared up to start their first day of the new school year, but for some it took a slightly different form.
Due to the impact the Little Desert National Park bushfire (started on the Monday afternoon) had on the Dimboola community, students were given alternative arrangements, including learning from home.
Dimboola Primary School principal Greg Sampson issued a Facebook post on Tuesday January 28 advising parents and caregivers that campus would remain closed for the of start of term one, setting a slight delay in student commencement.
Horsham West Primary School opened its doors to students, with Year 1 through to Year 6 able to attend the Horsham campus on Wednesday.
"We're aware that some families will have their own fire safety plans in place which may include keeping children at home," the Facebook post read.
"Education resources will be available for students unable to attend school on-site learning due to road closures.
"Staff members will be in touch with families who are unable to attend on site."
It was suggested that those learning from home write a card or letter to Dimboola CFA thanking members for keeping the town safe.
Learning resumed on campus last Thursday, January 30, after the Department of Education and the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) ensured the site was safe for students to return.
"VSBA were at school today (Wednesday January 29) to assess the buildings and I’m so pleased to share that we have been granted approval to have students on site tomorrow at Dimboola Primary School," a separate Facebook post said.
New Prep students had their first day of school on Thursday.
