Depot land to be freed up for new residences
Land currently occupied by Horsham Rural City Council's works depot could become a new residential development within the medium term.
Council voted at its September meeting on Monday to take the first steps in the process of calling for expressions of interest for the transformation of the area into housing.
The depot operation will be relocated to Plumpton Road towards the end of next year, freeing up its site for a potential sale.
Its proximity to Horsham's central activity district made the council-owned land “strategically located” and a “prime location” for a mix of medium-density dwellings and commercial premises, director of communities and place Kevin O'Brien told councillors.
Developers interested in purchasing the land will be required to work within the vision set out In the Horsham City Urban Renewal Project.
Council voted on Monday to seek the expertise of its officers and staff regarding timeframes and recommendations.
Meanwhile, councillors also endorsed a reduction in the speed limit from 80km/h to 60km/h on Plozzas Road, Haven, after a traffic count found almost one in five vehicles was exceeding the existing speed limit.
