Demons wary of Tigers
Laharum’s senior football side will look to continue their winning start to 2026 in round two this Saturday, April 18, at Cameron Oval, but go against a Pimpinio side coming off a statement win against Edenhope Apsley.
Having defeated the Demons in the 2024 finals series, Pimpinio appeared to have Laharum’s number after defeating them in both home and away fixtures in 2025.
However, Laharum went on to record a convincing 90-38 win over the Tigers in last year’s semifinals.
The Demons appeared to have only gotten stronger since then, with forward recruit Jack Fenner booting eight goals in the side’s 87-50 win over Taylors Lake in round one.
But Pimpinio showed no signs of their late-season slump from last year in round one, dominating the Saints 132-21.
Laharum coach Robbie Miller expects another tough contest in the growing rivalry between the two clubs.
“The last two or three years have been quite close with Pimpinio, and they're always up for a challenge, no matter who they're playing,” Miller said.
“So we know we'll have to be at our absolute best to put our best football to try and get the win, and they'll be doing the exact same.
“We know the areas of growth that we need to fix and improve on from the Taylors Lake game coming into round two.”
The likely return of Miller and veteran Shan Argall will bolster the Demons even more.
Despite being worried about the lack of leadership on the field in the opening round, Miller admitted it allowed players like Brodie Mines to step up, believing it would put the team in good standing for the season.
“I was a bit nervous about our leadership (for round one), but Brodie Mines stood up with that leadership perfectly,” Miller said.
“The guys rallied behind him well, and it’s a pleasing sign when a group can respond to have leaders out.”
