Demons set for bounce back
Laharum’s senior football side will look to apply lessons from their close loss to Harrow Balmoral when they host Natimuk United in round eight this Saturday, May 30.
The Demons and Southern Roos traded the lead multiple times before the reigning premiers prevailed 94-79.
Demons coach Robbie Miller was pleased with how the team matched up in round seven.
“I think we were starting to get on top in the one-on-one battles and throughout the midfield, but they’re a quality side for a reason, and they wrestled back the momentum in key points of the game,” he said.
“It was a great game to be a part of; it was just unfortunate we're on the losing end of it.”
Laharum faces off against a Rams side that has suffered back-to-back losses to Harrow Balmoral and Edenhope Apsley.
The Laharum admits he’s not sure what to expect from his opponents, who have previously shown they can match up against quality teams.
“Natimuk are a bit of an unknown,” Miller said.
“They’ve had some pretty good performances, and it looks like they’ve had a couple of shocking performances.
“So we’ll have to be right on our game, which is the mentality we try to go into every week.”
While their recent performances have been a good reflection that the side is approaching where they want to be, Miller believes there are improvements to be made, particularly around the contest.
“There are still a few areas of improvement in our game that we want to try and keep working on, like dealing with pressure in the heat of the contest,” he said.
“So we'll work hard on our contested football because I felt once we got on the exterior and got it forward with our one-on-ones, we created advantages and were able to put a score on the board.
“If we can tidy up and be a bit cleaner around the contested football, I think that'll go a long way to getting the result against Natimuk."
