Demons record commanding win
Horsham defeated Dimboola at City Oval on Saturday in what was a "pleasing win" according to Demons coach Jake Short.
While the Horsham side kept the score ticking over nicely, Dimboola found their goals a challenge to find, with the scores 5.1 (31) to 0.1 (1) at quarter-time and 8.6 (54) to 2.2 (14) at the big break.
The Demons added a further 2.3 to their score in quarter three, while Dimboola could manage only another point.
In the final quarter, Horsham added a further 2.3 to their result while the Roos kicked another 1.2, with the final scores being 12.12 (84) to 3.5 (23).
"It was pleasing to get back on the winners' list," Short said.
"The boys' ability to stick to our game plan and the way we wanted to move the football was the most pleasing aspect.
"We've been working hard at training in this area and the boys applied it well on game day."
Saying the Horsham side were aware of Dimboola's recent results and had spoken about it during the week, the coach said it was important they gave the opposition respect and didn't become complacent at any stage.
"The start was critical in ensuring they didn't have a sniff, so to kick away early was pleasing," Short said.
"They had some great players through the middle of the ground and they didn't stop trying, so credit to Dimboola."
Short acknowledged his side were a fast side full of youngsters so playing to those strengths had been a big learning after their couple of losses.
"The beauty of this team is they're really driven to improve, and the result on the weekend was a great reward for the boys' effort," he said.
The consistent effort across his team made for a challenge in picking the best players, Short said.
"Oakley Farr was full of run all day; he and Zac Martin, in his second game, impressed through the midfield.
"Then our older guys, Hudson Haire and our cCaptain Billy Carberry, were exceptional down back."
According to playHQ, Carberry, Farr and Martin were brilliant for the Demons while for the opposition Ashley Clugston, Ben Miller and Darcy Dubois led the way.
Goal scorers included Gibson Perry with three and Harvey Gunn with two for the winners, Dubois being the only multiple goal scorer for the Roos.
