Demons eye first win since 2022
Laharum hosts Kalkee at Cameron Oval in what shapes to be the closest match of round two in the Horsham District Football Netball League.
The Demons showed round one they are not the 2023 Demons, narrowly losing to Pimpinio by eight points after leading at three-quarter time.
The new-look Demons under Shan Argall and Robbie Miller were a bit scratchy with their skills but showed a lot of improvement and will be extra motivated to win their first game at home in 2024 and will be better off from the hitout.
Pimpinio coach Guy Smith said that he was impressed at what he saw from the Demons.
"We knew that Laharum was going to be a great team. They are a good side and not the Laharum of old, that's for sure," Smith said.
Kalkee will look to bounce back following a convincing loss to the Swifts. The young team was able to kick 12 goals against one of the top sides of the competition and a repeat of that effort will go a long way to gaining victory.
Rupanyup opens their season in round two with a home game against Pimpinio. The Tigers will be buoyed by last week's win over Laharum but face a rampaging Panther outfit that has new additions highlighted by the return of Andy Phelan.
Phelan, a premiership player in 2022 with the Panthers rejoins along with Kane Timmins (Wandalla), Lachlan Holm (Stawell Warriors), Thomas Smith (West Gambier) and Bailey Rothall (Glencoe).
Rupanyup is expected to be one of the challengers to Harrow Balmoral this season so expect them to come out firing to make a statement.
The Tigers secured a tough win over Laharum last week and this will be a good test for their young side.
Edenhope Apsley returns home to face Noradjuha Quantong with both teams eyeing to get their first win on the board. The Saints were stunned by Taylors Lake last week whilst the Bombers put up a good effort against Harrow Balmoral.
Fresh off 11 goals against Kalkee, Swifts recruit Paul Summers will be looking to add to his tally when they host Kaniva Leeor at North Park.
The Cougars lost to Natimuk by 28 points last week and they get their longest road trip out of the way early.
Natimuk hosts Taylors Lake with both teams looking to start the season 2-0. For both teams, to say a win is important is an understatement.
The Lakers would equal the amount of wins they had last year and Natimuk, missing the finals last year with six wins, will be a third of the way there.
