HORSHAM has moved into second position in Wimmera netball A Grade competition after claiming a strong win over Dimboola on Saturday.
The Demons flexed a show of strength over the Roos in a 68-33 goal victory and remains one game behind ladder leader Horsham Saints in a four-way battle with Stawell, Ararat and Dimboola.
On the courts at Dimboola, the Demons dominated its clash with the Roos extending its lead with each quarter, to produce some strong play through the midcourt who teamed with defensive team-mates to control the match from the opening whistle.
A four-goal lead at quarter time was extended to 14 goals by the half before really putting the foot down in the third term when they outscored the Roos 18 goals to seven and take a 52-27 goal advantage into the last quarter.
Another 16 goals in the final quarter rubber-stamped its strong play as the Roos were forced to work hard for each scoring opportunity that saw them score six for the term.
Horsham’s Georgia Batson shot a game-high 39 goals and teamed well with shooting partner Imogen Worthy who finished with 24 goals as both finished off the work of Romi Miller who was strong at the defensive end at goal defence.
Dimboola goal defence Holly Ross and wing attack Ashlee Morrish teamed well for the Roos to help set up goal shooter Olivia Jorgensen who found good range under the ring to finish with 22 goals.
At Central Park, ladder leader Horsham Saints kept their unbeaten record intact when they survived a huge challenge from Stawell to claim a thrilling 41-39 goal victory.
The Saints came from behind at half time when they trailed 20-16 before producing a defining third quarter when they took a four goal lead into the last quarter when they shot 15 goals to seven.
In a titanic battle in the final term, the Saints were able to keep their nose in front to shoot 10 goals for the final stanza, answering Stawell’s 12 goals which saw them reduce the deficit to two at the final whistle.
In other games, Minyip-Murtoa came from behind at three quarter time to turn a four-goal deficit into a thrilling two-goal win over Southern Mallee Giants and finish 42-40 goal victors.
At Alexandra Oval, home team Ararat controlled their match against Warrack Eagles to claim a decisive 56-32 goal victory.
Tomorrow will see four of the top five teams play each other when Horsham hosts Ararat and Stawell welcome’s Dimboola to Central Park.
Horsham Saints will be favoured to maintain its run at the top when they travel to Hopetoun for a match up with Southern Mallee Giants, while Warrack Eagles will look for their opening points when they welcome Nhill to Anzac Park.
