CWA's sweet surprise - Scones served with a side of eccentricity

The ladies of the Country Women’s Association are not taking Steampunk lying down.
When they serve up their scones and cream, they want to be equipped for whoever comes through the door when the second Wimmera Steampunk Festival takes over Dimboola later this month.
At a recent weekly craft day, all traditional craft was set aside so that members could study books on Steampunk instead - the science fiction subgenre which incorporates "retro-futuristic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th century industrial steam-powered machinery" (according to Wikipedia).
“To prepare our ladies, one of our craft days consisted of Steampunk books,” Dimboola president Mandy Myers said.
“The ladies were very happy with the books.
“Once they understood what it was, it gave them some great ideas for accessories.”
Mandy made it quite clear that although half the women serving Devonshire teas at the festival would be dressing up and joining in the fun, nobody would be wearing anything too risque.
“No revealing corsets or anything,” she said.
"But the CWA is a growing group that is prepared to take on new innovations.”
Member Joy Nelson said it was her daughter who insisted she dress up.
She said her daughter told her, “Mum, you’re serving scones. You have to dress up.”
The CWA will be serving Devonshire teas in the Dimboola RSL hall throughout the festival.
A lucky door prize will be awarded.
