Creek bank a sore sight
Residents around Asquith Reserve, Warracknabeal, have voiced their concerns over the thick weeds and sediment that have continued to mount in their section of Yarriambiack Creek.
Council and the Wimmera Catchment Management Authority (CMA) have established sediment and weed removal works from Wood Street sediment pond to the footbridge end of Werrigar Street but these are yet to be approved by the land manager, the state Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.
Resident Alan Smith said the section of the creek "just needs some TLC".
"It's detrimental to the town," Mr Smith said.
"We get people from the caravan park walk around.
"It's not a good look."
Mr Smith's wife Rosalie Smith said the weeds were continuing to slowly creep in.
"The ducks swim right up to it and then turn around because they can't get through," she said.
Wimmera CMA operational delivery manager Luke Austin said the community and council CEO Tammy Smith had identified concerns regarding Asquith Reserve.
The scope of the works to be carried out from Wood Street to Werrigar Street have now been expanded to include Asquith Reserve and will include removing the unwanted sediment and weeds.
"Vegetation and intital assessments have been done and now we're waiting on approvals from the land manager," Mr Austin said.
