Creative start to the new year
National Gallery of Victoria's (NGV) Kids on Tour program has returned to the Wimmera for another year of school-holiday creativity and fun.
Horsham Regional Art Gallery and Horsham Library each hosted sessions over three days this week where children were able to develop their creative skills as they made furry-friend headbands inspired by their own pets, created colourful dot patterns on pumpkins, and learned about and drew the native Bogong moth.
Teenagers were encouraged to attend a pompom workshop with Sophie Honess where they used yarn and felt to create decorative bush flower pompoms.
Senior project co-ordinator of community and access programs at NGV, Stephanie Pohlman, said this program allowed children to visit their local library or community hub and access free creative activities.
"Access to art and creativity is important," Ms Pohlman said.
"It's about bringing people together and building on imagination."
NGV's Kids on Tour program now includes 76 regional venues and reaches more than 54,000 participants.
"Art is for everyone and community venues work," Ms Pohlman said.
"It's also an opportunity for these community venues to build capacity at no cost to the venue."
