The Exchange Hotel has been operated by Nick and Mel Murray for 20 years.

Serving as a corner stone of community life since the mid-19th century, the Exchange Hotel is more than just a business - it's about a family legacy.

Mr Murray is a fourth-generation hotelier, and the family name has been in Australia’s hospitality industry for over 100 years.

Across 25 hotels spanning metropolitan and regional Australia, the Murrays have made their mark with dedication and a signature warmth to their service.

Mr Murray had the Victoria Hotel in Horsham for nine years prior to the Exchange Hotel.

"The opportunity came up to buy the freehold of the Exchange so we jumped at it," Mr Murray said.

"Mel founded and ran Shine Hairdressing prior to the Exchange."

Through the Exchange Hotel, Mr and Mrs Murray carry on that tradition in the heart of Horsham.

“When we took on the Exchange Hotel 20 years ago, we knew we were becoming custodians of something much bigger than us,” Mr Murray said.

“We wanted to honour its history, while ensuring it continued to be a place where people celebrate, come together and make memories.

"And that’s what we’ve dedicated ourselves to, every day since.”

Under the pair's stewardship, the Exchange Hotel has evolved while keeping its charm intact.

They’ve carefully modernized the space, introducing amenities and fresh dining experiences, while preserving its heritage.

Mrs Murray emphasised the importance of community in their work.

"It’s the people that make the Exchange what it is," she said.

"We’re here because of the wonderful patrons and dedicated staff who’ve stood by us over the years."

"This place is as much theirs as it is ours.”

During the last 20 years the Murray's have shared many moments with their customers.

"We have had many great memories including family weddings, fundraisers, Christmas Day with all the pub orphans and many more," Mr Murray said.

As Mr and Mrs Murray focus on the future, there are no signs of stopping, as the pair continue with their labour of love.
