Council vote closes
Voting in the Victorian local government elections closes at 6pm on Friday October 25, by which time all votes must have been posted.
“You need to post your completed ballot pack before 6pm, noting local clearance times may vary,” Electoral Commissioner Sven Bluemmel said.
Currently an unsubdivided municipality, Horsham Rural City Council will move to having seven single-councillor wards following a 2023 Victorian Government review.
Fifteen candidates are standing across the seven wards.
In West Wimmera Shire, which is unsubdivided, six candidates are standing for five seats.
Eight are competing for six seats on Hindmarsh Shire Council, and 15 are vying for six seats in Northern Grampians Shire.
Yarriambiack Shire attracted only six candidates for its three wards, each due to be elected unopposed.
Candidates for election can nominate in any ward regardless of where they live or own property.
However, residents must vote in the ward that they live in.
Voting is compulsory for voters who were on the state or council roll for this election at 4pm on Wednesday August 7.
Enrolled voters who don’t vote may be fined.
Election Day is Saturday October 26, and all results are to be declared by Friday November 15.
