Council to distribute grants
Hindmarsh Shire Council has announced the latest successful applicants for their community grants including the Business Assistance Grants, Community Action Grants and the Regional Community Event Grants.
Council has allocated $20,000 towards the 2024/25 Business Assistance Grants Program which consists of two key categories - streetscapes and business development.
Streetscapes allows businesses to apply for up to $3,000 to improve the exterior facade of their building while the business development grant allows businesses to apply for up to $2,000 to support the establishment of new and innovative businesses that increase the diversity of the Shire's business community.
Rainbow Sweets is set to receive $1,400 from the Streetscape funding to activate their large street-front windows with signage to be completed by a local artist and Turbo Gallery will receive $3,000 for a sculpture garden next to their premises in Federal Street, Rainbow.
Hayden's Café will receive $3,000 for upgrades for their premises.
Other recipients include Nhill Thai Massage $1,346, K’nyaw Asian Grocery in Nhill $631, Lots of Laughter in Nhill $599 and Lowana in Nhill $2,170.
Business development funding will be received by Cat Clarke Catering with $2,000 for a commercial kitchen upgrade and Big Bertha Coffee Van will receive $1,998 for refrigeration upgrades for the busy business.
Partners in Ag will also receive $1,679.
The Community Action Grants program is split into three categories; small equipment, event sponsorship and community assistance.
Small equipment funding allows community organisations to apply for up to $1,000 for the purchase of items and equipment.
Rainbow Archive and Historical Society is set to receive $1,000 for the purchase of a Ricoh Scan Snap SV600 scanner.
Other recipients include Nhill Agricultural and Pastoral Society $997.50, Nhill Combined Probus Club $1,000 and Nhill and District Sporting Club $1,000.
Event sponsorship has a maximum amount of $500 to run community events.
Jeparit Agricultural and Pastoral Society will receive $500 for the annual Jeparit Agricultural Show and The Oasis, Rainbow, will receive $500 to help run a movie night at the venue.
Successful recipients of the Regional Community Event Grants of $7,500 include Dimboola Progress Association who will receive $7,500 for next year's Wimmera Steampunk Festival to bring the theme of The Carnival of Peculiarities to life.
Rainbow Rises Events Association (RREA) will receive $4,000 for the 2025 Rainbow Rises 480 event due to be held in March. This is round one of the National ARB Off Road Racing Championships.
Piggery Lane Players in Nhill will also receive $2,000.
