Costly greens damage continues
Work crews at Dimboola Bowling Club have ripped up damaged bowling greens ready to replace the old surface with brand-new grass after corellas created havoc at the site.
Despite trying to deter the birds by using fishing line across the greens, imitation hawks on an extendable pole and a bird caller playing bird sounds that corellas don't like, the club has suffered continuous damage resulting in a $175,000 bill for replacement grass.
"They've done too much damage to be able to play good bowls," greenskeeper Daryl Argall said.
The job is being carried out by Berry Bowling Systems, who, Mr Argall said, originally installed the greens four years ago.
The crews have been pulling up the affected greens, and Mr Argall said the new grass would be installed from October 20.
The job is expected to take a few weeks to complete.
"It should be done by Melbourne Cup weekend to play," he said.
"It will be a fantastic facility when it's done."
The club will be selling its secondhand turf for $20 a metre, with 10 rolls on offer.
Mr Argall said the money would go towards the cost of the project.
Each roll is 10-12 metres long and 3.6 metres wide.

"Come down and try bowls," Mr Argall said.
"We can give you bowls to practise with."
