Container Deposit expansion
THE Dimboola Lions are launching their new Container Deposit bins as part of their efforts to increase the efficiency of the Container Deposit Scheme by providing more outlets for people to drop off containers.
The scheme currently sees about 70 per cent of all eligible containers returned.
By providing special bins, people who might have one or two containers while out and about can drop them into these bins rather than other bins.
“We wanted to provide an option in public place areas, for clubs and organisations and at events,” Dimboola Lions President, Paul Lehmann said.
“By having these bins available, we can provide them to clubs for collection or for fundraisers in public areas.”
The new bins are a bright orange and are well signed, so people can see what they are for.
Only cans will fit into the top hole in the lid, and the lids will be tied down so they cannot be opened.
The Lions currently collect cans from the Dimboola Caravan Park, and these bins will be put out in place there as well.
The purchase of the bins and the trailer for transporting them was made possible by a 2025 grant from the Squadron Energy Community Grants Program.
