There's concern across Australia currently over fuel prices rising and just how high they may soar.

It comes as motorists have been warned not to buy in panic, as prices surge amid the Middle East war.

Economists say petrol prices could rise by 40 cents a litre in the coming weeks, while Energy Minister Chris Bowen said Australia was prepared to negotiate the instability of fuel supplies.

He said, after consulting with the chief executives of Australia's oil refinery companies, that they were confident about oil supplies through until May.

When Wimmera Mallee News reached out to readers on their socials, Bert Van Elsen said he thought companies were ripping customers off when it came to fuel.

"The fuel supply that is at the servos presently was paid for and the fuel supply has not yet been impacted ... so why are we being ripped off?," he raised.

"We in the country need our vehicles, it's not as though we hop on a bus or tram and go from home to the shops.

"As usual, country Victorians have to put up with the exorbitant costs for food, etc., and now fuel."
