Community turned up in numbers for thank you event
The Dimboola community and beyond showed up in numbers as they thanked all emergency services that played a part in the Little Desert National Park bushfire earlier this year.
The fire, which forced the Dimboola and Wail communities to evacuate, spread rapidly and burned through over 83,000 hectares of land which 80 brigades from the Wimmera and beyond fought to contain.
Featuring a lineup of live music to keep everyone entertained, the thank you event was held at the Dimboola Soundshell at the recreation reserve.
Hindmarsh Shire chief executive Monica Revell said the event was very well attended.
"It was fantastic," she said.
"It was great for emergency services to turnout, local and from far and wide."
CFA volunteers received a wristband upon entry which entitled them to a free barbecue throughout the night.
A variety of food trucks eased hunger while attendees relaxed on the grass with family and friends.
"The feedback has been great with many commenting on the wonderful time they had," Ms Revell said.
"It's wonderful to see everyone come together and thank our emergency services.
"The weather was perfect and the venue was ideal."
An auction was held with many special items and packages on offer and all proceeds went to CFA brigades.
This included a Melbourne Renegades Cricket merchandise pack courtesy of Cricket Victoria, a Victorian Bushrangers season 2012/13 cricket bat, an Ultimate Helicopters voucher, a Victoria Hotel Dimboola voucher and more.
"All items were sold and we'll be donating $1500 to the Ebenezer and Lowan CFA groups," Ms Revell said.
Hindmarsh Shire mayor Ron Ismay also expressed his thanks to everyone who came along to the event and those who volunteered during the fire.
"On behalf of council and residents, a huge thanks to all of our volunteers," he said.
