Community encouraged to connect at free movie events for RUOK? Day
RUOK? Day events: free screenings to good support mental health.
A series of free events aim to encourage the community to come together and implement good mental health practices during RUOK? Day.
The Horsham and Ararat rural city councils, with Grampians Community Health and Victoria Police, have joined forces with the Centre Cinema and Astor Cinema to host free movie screenings on Thursday, September 12.
Nearly half of all Australian adults will face mental ill-health at some point in their life, and one-in-five say the cost-of-living crisis is worsening their mental health.
A spokesperson said the events aim to bring the community together and show that it is OK to have difficult conversations.
"These events are designed to foster community spirit, encourage people to check in on their mates, and raise awareness about mental health," the spokesperson said.
"The aim of this initiative is to create a supportive environment where people feel comfortable reaching out to one another and discussing mental health openly.
"It is hoped that the free movie events will serve as a platform to engage with the community, bring friends and family together, and champion the RUOK Day message."
Attendees can watch a movie with A Horse Named Winx, It Ends With Us and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on offer in Ararat and Horsham.
Doors open at 6.30pm.
