Community calls for support
Fed up with the lack of transparency behind the decision to ban climbing on parts of Mount Arapiles, community members in Natimuk are petitioning for conversation and closure delays, until consultation takes place.
An online petition has already gathered more than 3,500 signatures as of mid this week and closes on January 31, 2025.
"This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly, the Allan Labor Government's devastating decision to close large portions of rock-climbing areas on Mt Arapiles (Dyurrite), and its failure to consult with the climbing community and local residents impacted by this decision," it reads.
"The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly calls on the government to engage in transparent and expanded consultation with all stakeholders and demands that established climbing routes and The Pines campground are not removed until such consultation occurs."
