Peas reigned supreme again, with a decisive win over Wheat in the first match of the evening, 10 sets to 2, 32 games to 18, 490 points to 415.
However only one of the 12 sets was won in three straight games - all of the others going to four or five games, as shown in the high number of points scored by each team.
Peas’ Jason Robinson began well with a win over Wheat’s Sandon Schultz 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 13-11. Brad Martin followed with a win over Wheat ‘s Richard Tickner 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5, and Peas’ Shane Edlesten defeated Wheat’s David Ward 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7.
The next three sets were all won by Peas, but each went to a five-game tie-breaker, and Pea’s Mel Patni defeated Craig Byron 11-7, 8-11, 11-13, 11-6, 11-8.
Jason/Brad defeated Sandon/Richard 11-7, 7-11, 15-13, 11-13, 11-5, and Shane/Mel won over David/Craig 11-6, 10-12, 4-11, 15-13, 11-7.
Peas continued their relentless attack with Jason defeating Richard 11-5, 11-2, 11-0, but Wheat’s Sandon finally took a set from Peas’ Brad 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 11-4.
Then Peas’ Shane defeated Craig 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, and Mel won over David 4-11, 12-0, 11-3, 12-10.
Wheat scored their second set of the night when Sandon/David defeated Jason/Shane 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8. Peas took the last doubles Brad/Mel defeated Richard/Craig 11-6, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9 to take the match in grand style.
Match Two of the evening saw Barley over the line against Lentils in a close match, 7 sets to 5, 25 games to 18, 397 points to 362.
Barley took the first three singles - Ash Purdue defeated Owen Osborne 11-4, 11-6, 11-4, 11-3. Shane Wardle defeated sub Simon Leslie 11-6, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, and Wendy Lehmann won over Keedie Wardle 11-9, 11-4, 14-12. Then Lentils’ Zeke Clark took a set over Barley’s sub Clive Young 11-7, 11-5, 11-4.
The first doubles went to Lentils when Owen/Simon defeated Ash/Shane 11-7, 5-11, 12-10, 11-5. Barley won the next doubles: Wendy/Clive defeated Keedie/Zeke 11-8, 11-9, 11-7.
The reverse singles were two sets to each team.
Lentils’ Owen defeated Shane 11-6, 11-5, 11-2. Keedie defeated Clive Simon 11-9, 12-14, 11-6, 11-7, and Barley’s Ash defeated Simon 11-3, 11-4, 11-1. Also, Wendy defeated Zeke 6-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.
Barley won the next doubles 11-3, 11-7, 12-10, with Lentils taking the last doubles, Simon/Zeke over Shane/Clive 13-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-6.
Match Three between Beans and Vetch was the closest of the night, with Vetch over the line 6 sets each, 22 games to 18, 384 points to 354.
Vetch won the first two singles: Brendon Bibby over Beans’ sub Russell Schultz 11-4, 11-5, 11-5, and Rob Lehmann over Graeme Koschitzke 14-12, 11-6, 11-8, then Heather Huebner won a set for Beans defeating Fiona Holland 11-9, 15-13, 11-9, followed by a win for Vetch when Amy Holland defeated Josh Hutchinson 11-6, 12-10, 11-6.
Vetch won the first doubles when Brendon/Rob defeated Russell/Graeme 11-3, 11-8, 11-7. Beans fought back, taking the next doubles, Heather/Josh defeated Fiona/Amy 6-11, 12-10, 16-14, 11-9.
Beans’ sub Russell defeated Rob 16-14, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7, and Heather defeated Amy 11-3, 11-4, 11-5.
Vetch won the other two reverse singles when Brendon defeated Graeme 11-4, 11-3, 11-3 and Fiona defeated Josh 11-7, 11-4, 12-10.
Beans won the last two doubles when Russell/Heather defeated Brendon/Fiona 11-5, 11-13, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4, and Graeme/Josh defeated Rob/Amy 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, giving Vetch the match by four games, which left Beans still on the bottom of the ladder.
