Christmas spirit spreads to Rainbow street

A couple of years ago, Rainbow residents noticed it looked like no-one in the town cared about Christmas.

There were no decorations in the streets, and the Christmas spirit was lacking severely.

But residents were determined not to have their community resembling Mt Crumpit, home of The Grinch, so they got to work.

On Sunday, December 1, the streets came to life with cheer and decoration as residents gathered to kick off the festive season for the second time in as many years.

One of the organisers, Norelle Eckerman, said the night included Christmas cakes, a sausage sizzle and a Santa visit.

She said the Christmas spirit is important for the town, as the festive spirit is about bringing people together, family and friends together.

It's hoped the event will become an annual celebration.
