Chamber meets to tick off business
Five councillors took just 21 minutes to whip through Monday's monthly Horsham Rural City Council meeting.
In a meeting pushed back by a week from its original September 23 date, councillors Robyn Gulline, David Bowe, Claudia Haenel, Penny Flynn and Les Power ticked off procedural business such as approving the minutes of previous meetings and briefings and reporting on their activities of the past month in the community.
The main item requiring the group's sign-off was council's 2023-24 financial and performance statements, prepared by officers and staff in readiness for submission to the Victorian Auditor-General's Office.
On the advice of HRCC's audit and risk committee, council voted to approve in-principle the documents subject to any changes recommended and/or agreed to by the office of the auditor-general and to nominate Cr Gulline as mayor and Cr Flynn to certify and approve the statements in their final form.
Council's next monthly meeting, to be held on October 21, will be the last in its current make-up.
On November 21, the incoming council - decided by this month's local government election - will meet to choose Horsham's new mayor.
Neither incumbent Cr Gulline nor former deputy mayor Cr Flynn is standing for re-election to council this year.
The remaining four councillors - Cr Haenel, Cr Power, Cr Bowe and Cr Ian Ross, who was absent from Monday's meeting - are all election candidates.
Council has been operating with one position vacant since the death of Cr Bob Redden at the start of August.
