CFA kept busy as warm summer temperatures keep the risk of fires high
Horsham CFA responds to four callouts during a warm start to the week.
Warm temperatures persist in Horsham as the summer months roll on, and Horsham CFA has been kept busy with a heightened risk of fires.
On Monday, January 13, Horsham CFA responded to three calls in town.
At 1:30pm, a CFA unit responded to a bin fire at the intersection of Firebrace and Bailie streets.
"Crews discovered a cigarette was the cause of the fire," said a CFA spokesperson.
The incident was deemed under control and safe by 1:48pm.
Two Horsham CFA units responded to a second call in Horsham at around 3pm after receiving reports of a bark fire at the intersection between Roberts Avenue and Darlot Street.
The incident was deemed safe by 3:11pm.
Horsham CFA was again called out at 9:40pm, responding to reports of a fire on Dimboola Road.
Victoria Police were called to the scene for traffic control.
"Upon arrival, crews discovered a room full of smoke inside a structure," said a CFA spokesperson.
"It was discovered the smoke was a result of an occupant cooking."
The incident was under control and deemed safe by 10:16pm.
Horsham CFA responded to another call on Tuesday, January 14, with two units attending Horsham's Town Hall at 12:20pm.
An officer said the incident was due to a faulty alarm.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a high of 38 degrees for Horham on Tuesday, January 13.
But Wednesday, January 15, is expected to see much cooler highs before the temperature ramps up into next week.
Currently, the CFA has declared the Wimmera's fire risk as high until Friday, January 17.
