In a powerful display of batting, twin centuries to Patrick Mills and Logan Millar have helped the Homers to a massive 251 run win over Blackheath Dimboola at the Dimboola Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Homers got off to a flying start through Luke Deutscher and Patrick Mills forming an opening partnership of 173 runs off 25 overs. Duetscher fell 20 runs short of his century getting caught by Sam Leith off the bowling of Jake McLean for 80 (64).
The next 20 overs was electrifying. Logan Millar came to the crease and in a brilliant batting display, scored an unbeaten 111 (79) in the 184 run partnership with Patrick Mills. At the end of their 45 overs, they scored 357 with Patrick Mills also unbeaten on 139 (127).
In the chase the Homers bowled the home side out for 106. Darren Sexton (45) and Malcolm Barry (31) were the standouts with the bat.
The day, however, belonged to Patrick Mills and Logan Millar, both bringing up their first A-Grade centuries.
Patrick Mills was ecstatic after the match.
"I have been waiting a while for this. I have got close a couple of times but to finally get there, it's a good feeling. It was also awesome doing it alongside Logan," he said.
Logan Millar said it was a special moment.
"This was my first ever century and it's a special moment. I love batting with Patrick. It was special both of us scoring our first centuries together," he said.
Blackheath Dimboola captain Sam Leith rued the poor fielding but also praised the three Homers batsmen.
"Patrick batted unreal. It was beautiful to watch. We gave him a chance early and then he punished us and showed why he is one of the premier batsmen in the competition. Logan was also unreal and Deutscher also played good," he said.
"We dropped a few catches and misfielded a lot which probably cost us 100-150 runs. But credit where it's due, they just batted phenomenally.
"Albert Schorback did well behind the stumps and he is going to have a long career and there is a bright future there. He is having fun as well which is great to see. Archer Laverty is starting to get back into it after breaking a wrist, so there are some positives that we can take out of the match."
At Coughlin Park, the Bullants had a comfortable 7 wicket win over the Horsham Saints.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Saints got off to a good start and were 3/88 at one stage, but a poor batting display from the middle order saw them finish at 9/137 off their 45 overs with Dezi Carter remaining unbeaten with the top score of 40. Heath Lang continues his excellent season taking another 3 wickets, finishing with 3/29.
The Saints started well with the ball with Brock Hamerston trapping Shane Oakley, LBW, for a duck.
Matthew Combe came to the crease and following his unbeaten century last week, continued his good form, this time remaining unbeaten on 57 and chasing the target down in 38 overs. He was well supported by Justtin Combe (22), Jamie Byrne (22) and Troy Demesny remaining unbeaten on 18.
Brock Hamerston was involved in all three dismissals, picking up figures of 2/31 and also catching Jamie Byrne off Dezi Carter's bowling.
Saints captain Gary Davidson praised Dezi Carter for his performance.
"As a 15 year old, at the top of the order, against two experienced opening bowlers, he handled it well and played great. Alan Dube at the top of the order also did great," he said.
Laharum got their first win of the year with a 74 run win over Lubeck Murtoa. After winning the toss and batting, they scored 229 with the loss of 4 wickets. Ben Puecker scored 82 with Harrison Hoffmann (45) and Josh Mahoney (33) remaining unbeaten.
Lubeck Murtoa, missing 5 players from their lineup, had a few players make starts, but were bowled out for 155 in the 40th over. Joshua Hedt top scored with 31.
For Laharum it was youngster's Max Bunworth (3/29) and Jackson Hoffmann (3/16) leading the way.
Laharum's Josh Mahoney said everything clicked on the day.
"It was good to get the win. The outfield was pretty quick so we had to be patient and set ourselves up," he said.
"Shaun and Dayan set it up well and Ben was able to take advantage and then myself and Harrison Hoffmann cashed in at the end.
"Our bowling wasn't that good early, but the three youngsters in Max Bunworth, Jackson Hoffmann and Jude Borlace all bowled tight and put the pressure on and they all cashed in with wickets."
In the other match the Tigers lost to West Wimmera Warriors. The Warriors were bowled out for 286 with Nathan Alexander top scoring with 118 with Brad Alexander also chipping in with 44.
For the Tigers, Angus Adams (45) and Levi Mock (39) were their best scorers.
Captain Tyler Puls said it wasn't their best performance but praised Nathan and Brad for their innings.
"When you have Nathan and Brad teeing off you can't do much about it. They are quality batsman that can hit a big ball," he said.
"It wasn't our best performance and we didn't get early wickets like we have which made it hard.
"With the bat we just didn't get off to strong opening partnerships like we have in previous matches. We couldn't build a big partnership and that cost us in the end."
