Rainbow Cemetery news
The board of trustees recently held an AGM to elect a new executive.
The following were elected.
President: Mark Thomas
Vic President: Larry Roberts
Sec/Treas: Graham Nuske
Assistant Sec: Heather Drendel.
Following the elections, a general meeting was held to discuss ongoing plans for the Cemetery.
The need for a new row in the lawn section was discussed as well as the need to construct a new niche wall for the internment of Ashes.
These will hopefully be happening in the near future, hopefully not causing too much disruption should there be a funeral.
Discussion was also held over the state of some of our older graves.
The Cemetery would be grateful if families who think that their ancestors graves are in need of a “fix up” to please contact the cemetery to seek advice as to what can be done.
Please remember that the Cemetery Trust are the guardians, as such, of the graves.
Nothing can be done to them without first consulting the Cemetery.
It seems silly, and as a rule there should be no trouble, but we just need to follow some rules.
Following the meeting the Board did a walk throughout the Cemetery and were amazed at the amount of broken glass that was about.
This is a real hazard.
As such, we are asking that NO GLASS OR CERAMICS be placed on or at a grave.
If it gets hit by the mower, especially in the lawn section, it could easily cause an injury to not only the person on the mower but also to any visitors.
The Board would welcome any ideas that you would like to see implemented at the Cemetery.
We can't guarantee that all will happen, but they will definitely be considered.
The Cemetery and surrounds are an absolute credit to those volunteers who work tirelessly.
To Oog Martion and Bob Bastin, thanks for everything you do.
And also credit must go to the Late George Roberts.
George was a tireless worker.
Between the three of them we have a clean and tidy place.
No weed in its right mind would grow there with these three on the job.
And finally, after about 15 years of service to the cemetery, we farewell Jodi Keller.
She has been and will remain to be, a source of information for us as we move forward.
Thanks Jodi for your tireless work.
Appreciation and thanks doesn’t seem enough.
