Fourteen major road sections in the Wimmera will be entirely rebuilt thanks to a total investment of $13.6 million by the state government.
The annual blitz on road upkeep for both the Henty and Wimmera highways will enable farmers and transport drivers to continue delivering goods where they are needed and keep other motorists safe and on time.
Over the upcoming months, upgrades will be made to five portions of the Wimmera Highway at Dooen, Vectis, Bates Lake, St Arnaud East and the Murtoa township.
The Henty Highway will be rebuilt at Rosebery, Byrneville, Brim North and the Beulah township.
The two highways carry thousands of vehicles daily and serve as crucial freight routes and essential access points for towns that look to Horsham as their regional hub.
The projects are part of a $780 million state government investment to rebuild, repair and resurface Victorian roads.
The roads that will be the focus of the repair blitz have been chosen after expert assessments and input from local communities to make sure the work will be done where it is needed most.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne asked drivers to respect road workers throughout the project.
“This significant investment will improve connections for farming and freight across the Wimmera region,” Ms Horne said.
“With our crews out in force during the maintenance season, we remind drivers to be careful around workers and obey any traffic management in place for the safety of all road users.”
The work will also ensure that other essential components of the road system are up to par, including through the reconstruction of bridges, culverts, and retaining walls as well as the inspection and upkeep of hundreds of traffic lights, signs and other structures.
“These upgrades will not only ensure smoother journeys for all motorists but will improve access for the thousands of freight and farming operators who use these roads each year,”Member of Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
