Carter thriving in top grade
16-year-old Dezi Carter is having a terrific Horsham Cricket Association season scoring 216 runs at an average of 36 batting at number three for the Horsham Saints.
In his debut A-Grade season, he has a top score of 75 which came against Laharum and has also put up decent scores against premiership fancies with a 53 against Homers and an unbeaten 40 against the Bullants.
Carter says he is enjoying his cricket.
"It's great to play under Gary Davidson's leadership. These guys are good to play with," he said.
"I like batting at three. It gives me a good opportunity and I am liking it.
"The bowlers are good. It's challenging and I am finding it great."
Carter had a solid country week two weeks ago for the Horsham under-17's representative team. They were runners-up and he was important scoring 96 runs. He said he had fun during the week.
"It was good fun and I enjoyed it. We got close to winning and it was a lot better than last year," he said.
"It was good to get a couple of starts but it would have been nice to go on with one."
Gary Davidson is a good mentor to Carter as his captain for the Saints and Davidson said that he is developing really well.
"Dezi has developed enormously this year," he said.
"He started out being a young guy that was cautious in his batting but he has grown in confidence and put up some good scores. He hasn't been troubled by the bowling."
With three two-day games left until finals Carter has ample opportunity to add more runs to what has already been successful debut season in the top grade.
