Call out for future councillors

With the October local government elections on the horizon, Yarriambiack Shire Council is hoping their upcoming information sessions will help potential candidates grasp both the rewards and responsibilities associated with being a councillor.

The sessions will also detail the process of candidate nomination, and information about required training which must be completed in order to be nominated.

Yarriambiack Shire Council CEO Tammy Smith said she is encouraging anyone people considering standing for election to attend the available information sessions.

"The Municipal Association of Victoria is also holding a Stand for Council information session for the Wimmera Southern Mallee in Nhill on August 14, from 6pm to 9pm at the Nhill Community Centre,"

Councillor candidate nominations will open on Monday September 9, and will close on Tuesday September 17 at 12pm.

The election period for the 2024 general elections will begin at 12pm on Tuesday September 17 and end at 6pm on Saturday October 26.

All election results are to be declared by Friday November 15.

Interested individuals seeking more information are encouraged to contact Ms Smith through the Warracknabeal Shire Office customer service team, and attend one of the following information sessions.

* Warracknabeal on Monday 15 July, from 6pm - 7pm, at the Shire Office, 34 Lyle Street, Warracknabeal.

* Dunmunkle on Tuesday 16 July, from 6pm - 7pm, at the Murtoa and District Neighbourhood
House, 36 McDonald Street, Murtoa.

* Hopetoun on Wednesday 17 July, from 6pm - 7pm, at the Neighbourhood House, 75 Lascelles
Street, Hopetoun.
