Calder's eight goals leads Dimboola to first win of 2024
After narrowly missing against Stawell last week by five points, eight goals to Jackson Calder has led Dimboola to their first win of the season, a five point victory against Horsham at City Oval.
The Demons got the jump on the Roos early, leading by 10 points at quarter-time. A four-goal second quarter saw the Roos trail by three at halftime.
The second half was tight throughout with Dimboola edging ahead in the third and then surviving to win 13.6.84 to 11.13.79.
Calder was sensational and has hit the league running as a big-name recruit, scoring 19 goals in his first three games.
Jack Landt is not surprised he is hitting the scoreboard the way he is and said they are excited to have him.
"I sort of expected it to be honest. He is a very good forward and he will be a handful for every defender in the competition and has started well, Landt said.
On the game itself, Landt said the Demons were a tough opponent.
"They played a pretty exciting brand of football and I guess our experience in the end helped us get over the line," Landt said.
"It is good to have Dylan Landt and Andrew Moore in the midfield. They are some of the best midfielders in local football and they will be a handful.
Landt is excited about Patrick Lindsay and Alex Jakiel who are stepping up.
"Patrick has taken that next step and has been very clean and comfortable this year and has been good in the midfield and up forward," Landt said.
"Alex is still learning as a young key forward and he has a great opportunity to learn from Jackson Calder. He has presented well and has a great mark for his size and is looking very promising."
Demons coach Jordy Burke said they had their chances and were proud of the boys.
"We were in a good position to win it and a couple of things happened late in the game outside of our control, and I am proud of the boys for fighting to the end with a man down," Burke said.
"They never stopped running and adapted the best they could. Both midfields were impressive and it was a good game of football.
"24 scoring shots and kicking 11 goals is frustrating, but that is something we will work on and moving forward just need to take our opportunities."
