Auntie Silly Billy’s Kathee has changed hands and will be closed for preparations and rearranging before reopening this Saturday, trading as Café 10-17.
Rick, Liz, and five-year-old son Cameron have been living in Hopetoun for five years, and considered purchasing the cafe in Beulah in 2018, but said the timing wasn't quite right.
On May 29, Rick was on his way through Hopetoun and was in need of a coffe,e so thought he would stop by Auntie Silly Billy’s Katheè.
He ordered a double, double espresso and a feed, and had a long yarn with previous-owner, Lisa.
All the while, during the conversation, he was texting with Liz, and just four days later they popped in with an offer.
The next thing they knew it was all finalised.
Running a cafe or food van has been a long time dream for the couple, which is now coming to fruition.
Liz has a real passion for cooking and making desserts, working for 27 years as caterer at Flemington Racecourse and has a Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery.
Rick is an avid lover of coffee, so "if you’re a coffee lover too, you’ll be coming to the right place to get a great brew."
Although there will be some changes to the menu, all the current favourites like pizzas, Sunday roasts, fish and chips and hamburgers will remain a fixture.
Some of the new foods the new owners plan to introduce include a variety of meal packs, desserts, ready made foods, pasta dishes, home made lasagne and even chicken parmigiana made from scratch.
