Only the delivery and installation of new furniture stands between tourists keen to explore the region and the new accomodations they have already tried to book in Warracknabeal and Hopetoun.
Three new cabins have been placed at both the Warracknabeal and Hopetoun Caravan Parks site and are scheduled to be ready for use in mid-March.
The cabins have been installed in response to community feedbackrequesting more tourism accommodation.
“Communities were saying they’d like to capture those visiting tourists who don’t often stay as long as they could,” Yarriambiack Shire mayor Kylie Zanker said.
“Hopefully this is going to meet their needs and more people, more often, will be coming to visit our beautiful towns.”
Cr Zanker said the cabins have already received booking requests, showing the investment will be worth every dollar.
“We’re looking at bookings already which is a really positive thing going forward,” she said.
The Warracknabeal cabins have been specifically constructed closer to the Yarriambiack Creek with decking overlooking the water, after council received thoroughly positive feedback regarding the view.
The Hopetoun cabins have been built with the same concept in mind, overlooking Lake Lascelles, and with easy access to Hopetoun’s main street.
The main windows in the cabins have been orientated to face the Yarriambiack waters in order to enhance the visitor's experience.
Each cabin has been tailored to fit singles, couples or families, and consist of two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, bathroom and a seperate toilet room.
This investment is part of a funding package which includes new amenities blocks and camp kitchens at both sites in the hopes of attracting more tourists to stay.
“The great part about the amenities block is it obviously has more of an attraction to caravaners to stop there,” Cr Zanker said.
“The feedback we always get is they love the views and that (the caravan parks) are right next to the lake and the creek, so we really wanted to make sure that the lovely amenities are setting us up for future visitors.”
Cr Zanker said she saw the cabins as an opportunity for tourists to stay longer, enjoying and investing in what the Yarriambiack communities have to offer.
“We have so many beautiful areas across our shire for tourists to explore, and not everyone has a caravan,” she said.
“Whether it’s the cabins at Murtoa’s Lake Marma, beautiful wetlands in Minyip, (Yarriambiack) is a really nice destination for people to travel along and stop in.”
